A huge storm in October 2010 reached a central pressure of 955 mb over Minnesota. The previous examples in this thread are "over-land" bomb cyclones that are infrequent in the historical record -- with extreme impacts.
Typical "bomb cyclones" use the moisture & heat from the ocean surface to rapidly intensify e.g. last winter January 4, 2018 -- when Nor'easters were a thing.
