John Minford, #SunTzu 4:1 "Of old, the skillful warrior first ensured his own invulnerability; then he waited for the enemy's vulnerability."
I won't know, for sure, until I'm completely done. But, I suspect that this is both my favorite chapter and my favorite verse. So here's this guy in 500 BC or so talking about what things were like in the old days. He likely has no idea like time machines. But he wants one!
He's talking about the old days. Please!, try to go there with him. He's nostalgic. He's thinking back to when? Again, this is a very big deal, listen up. He's thinking about when...wait for it...strategic defense was the normal way of fighting. What? Strategic defense? Yes.
Just deal with the math for a moment. Two thousand five hundred years ago, in Ancient China (ancient to us, and it wasn't actually China), a wise man was pining for the old days when everyone knew that defense was, well, everything. But, obviously, it was strategic defense. Duh.
Confession is good for the soul. Admit it. You have no clue what strategic defense is. Be humble. Be honest. You've heard the term before but you didn't pay any attention. Words, words, words, they fly around like butterflies. What in hell's bells is strategic defense?
I'm not you. You're not me. I actually do know what strategic defense is. I don't mean to be rude, and I apologize for my boldness. But, there's a big line drawn between those who do and those who don't know. You completely know, though, don't you, that I'm trying to recruit you?
Yep, he's done it again. Master Sun has introduced a concept so important that it might well be worth more than the rest of his little book. So, let's dive in. Defense. Picture someone trying to hit you. Yes? You naturally, automatically, raise your arm up. Why?
It's not actually you, it's your body that does it, instinctively. Your body knows that your arm is more expendable than your face, your throat, your heart or lungs. You can lose your arm. You can't lose the others. So you place your arm between the threat and the rest of you.
Ah, but your body doesn't have ONLY one arm, it has two. After you ward off the attack, hopefully NOT losing your first arm, your second arm is ready to strike. Please hear, you need NO training for this. Your body is 100% prepared for this automatically.
The ONLY qualifier is that you must NOT be in denial. You must KNOW that you're in combat. You must accept that this war is real. You're either going to live or die, one or the other. If you meet that one and only one qualifier, your body will do the rest, automatically.
There's a WWII story I've read, I don't know that it's true, but I believe it. Japanese soldiers took over a Chinese village. They were everywhere in the village. A farmer, with his machete, was coming back from the fields. He saw all the troops with their guns.
His home and family were across the village center. Not thinking, he raised his machete and struck the first Japanese soldier in his way, killing him. He stepped forward. He killed the next, and the next and the next, nine times. One strike, one kill, till he got to his family.
Why would armed soldiers not raise their guns and shoot him? They weren't prepared for his attack. They thought they owned the space, and were NOT in a defensive posture. The did NOT employ strategic defense. They actually didn't defend, at all.
Go again. Defense = somebody's trying to hit you, you raise your arm. Yes? Good, so what's the strategic part? Again, you use one arm to ward, your other arm to strike. Yes, it's better if you have a sword, but still, your two arms are the definition. One to ward, one to strike.
But wait! Your enemy has two arms too. You might need both arms to defend. Okay, defend, defend, defend, do it well, don't die. Your enemy will expend more energy attacking than you will warding off his strikes. Did you hear that? Attacking takes more energy than defending.
Don't attack. Defend if attacked. The lovely idiots who think Master Sun isn't speaking about war seem, to me, to NOT understand this. Yes, he's speaking about war. You can walk and chew gum, both. He's stating, clearly and absolutely that, in war, defense is superior.
Thing is, it has to be strategic. So what's that, exactly? It means, he teaches us, that after you protect yourself, you're 100% ready to strike your enemy in his moment of weakness. And, wise soul that you are, you KNOW he will have a moment of weakness. His attack assures this.
Yes, it is not possible to attack with zero weakness. You're right handed. You strike from high right to low left automatically. What's vulnerable? Your high left. Go slow. You can see this. Defense covers your high left while you strike from your high right.
We'll discuss this more, many times. Just let your mind start working on defense, and on the fact that attacking always opens you up for counter attack, for vulnerability. Defense rocks over attack. But only if you're ready to attack when your enemy's weakness reveals itself.
Let's apply. The Democrats have NEVER been more vulnerable than they are right now. They are attacking with a berserker's frenzy. They've catapulted forward on the basis of the left control over some portion of our youth. They're at least 10 and maybe 20 or more years early.
If it weren't for @realDonaldTrump, given another 20 or 30 years, they'd completely destroy America herself, simply, so gently, no one would know she was gone. Imagine a vortex, a whirlpool, the water draining out of the bathtub. There is a sucking sound draining the swamp.
For decades, their offense was invisible and they needed NO defense whatsoever. It is only now that they realize their weakness and are responding like rats on a sinking ship. Or humans on the Titanic, not letting other humans into their life boats.
Fear not, or as Sean always tells us, let not your hearts be troubled. Focus solely on your defense, first. Be secure. Work. Get paid. Spend less than you make. Save a portion. Buy guns. Buy bullets. Build a fence around your home so you're ready if it comes to that. Be ready.
Do not attack. Attack no one. When you're attacked, defend. Be calm. Be confident. Simply defend. If your foolish attacker wises up, he may go away. If so, let him. If not, keep defending...until? His weakness shows up. Now, instantly attack. That is strategic defense.
