Ni Kuang, in addition to his own novels, also did some ghostwriting for Jin Yong and Gu Long. He also wrote one of the first books of "Jinology", the study of Jin Yong's work. He was a prolific writer and wrote the screenplays to many Shaw Bros films, such as The Avenging Eagle.
If you've ever watched wuxia or kung fu movies, you've seen Nu Kuang's work. He was even more well known for his science fiction writing. He wrote over 400 screenplays, and he wrote them not in standard format, but like a novel. He wrote over 300 novels.

DAN SIMMONS

Where to start with this genre-crossing author, spanning fantasy, horror and SF?
There's where where it all started – with his 1986 World Fantasy Award winning novel The Song of Kali, a psychological horror about a journalist encountering a latter day cult of Kali
Or his other horror themed works - or perhaps his dark fantasy or horror Summer of Night, reminiscent of Stephen King with its group of adolescent boys facing a supernatural terror with a long history behind it, or his take on psychic vampires in Carrion Comfort

ERIC FLINT

One of my favorite sub-genres of science fiction - time slip science fiction
What might be dubbed Connecticut Yankee or Lest Darkness Fall time travel on an individual scale - or Axis of Time, Island in the Sea of Time, Assiti Shards or just pure alien space bats time travel on a larger scale
Time slip science fiction involves time travel to the past, almost always unintentionally and often by unknown means. And because the time travellers typically transform the historical past, it tends to involve alternate history

JOHN RINGO

Oh John Ringo no! Image
A phrase coined by David Hines when reviewing Ringo's Paladin of Shadows series - that became a catchphrase and meme, applauded by Ringo himself because he well knew how trashy it was, essentially a hobby pet project he had planned as exorcism rather than publication
There's always something of that shiver of guilty pleasure when reading Ringo's military SF, but it's always fun - that's the pleasurable part

1/ What a Tragedy for 🇪🇺 🚨🚨 one more 🧵

The @Europarl_EN has therefore decided to turn #Europe into the next generation #Leviathan. Makes me wonder if Thomas Hobbes was a #scifi author more than a philosopher !
2/ Beyond the inevitable decrease in competitiveness for the European digital asset ecosystem - this decision is much more serious, calling into question the very freedom and privacy 🕵️‍♀️ of #European citizens if enacted in law.

So, Heavy Gear, my fave #scifi #TTRPG of all time came up again today, and I remembered something about it that will vibe with the #Archaeology/TTRPG crossover mutuals I have, which is at least @danielhkwan and @FabricAlchemist. HG was a game that actually had archaeology...1/?
2/?... as an organic part of its world building. Terranova, the main world things happened on? Earth's oldest colony. Over a 1000 earth years of history. Religions, wars, failed settlements, an invasion by Earth forces... And the creators actually recognized that this would...
3/?... produce archaeology sites and mysteries. The most know of course are the mysterious clusters of Easter Island style heads that dot parts of the world. It was a rare treat from a genre that usually treats archaeology as some Ancient Aliens nonsense. And as a bonus?

Hey Twitter! It's been a while. I used to write here all the time hanging out with #scifichat, #comicschat, #litchat, talking about #science, #tech, #autism and a dozen other topics which broadened my horizons and let me share my diverse interests in almost everything.
Then my life got incredibly busy. My son went to high school and coupled with his #autism, our lives became super-complex. I lost my job and my car gave up the ghost after four years of @Uber. Then the unthinkable, my wife experienced #renalfailure.
4 years ago, she underwent an operation for #peritoneal #dialysis. This form of at-home dialysis would let her take care of her renal needs at home avoiding the need for external #hemodialysis centers. In hindsight, this may have saved her life.

That time of the year & as always, putting down in one thread a whole bunch of #IndianSF (spec-fic) i've read & recommended this year; short fiction you can read right now, online & for free. If there was a Year's Best Indian Speculative Fiction, these would be on it. Here goes:
"The Demon Sage's Daughter" by @varshadineshs over at @strangehorizons goes beyond boring Mahabharata fanfic & tired mythsploitation. Quite the retelling of the Kacha/Shukracharya story as Devayani makes it hers, with versions to shape her destiny strangehorizons.com/fiction/the-de…

NASA just confirmed its final resting place - impacting the surface 2 minutes later:

So, I got into a LONG!!! talk with a reader/friend of mine about the world of publishing. Now, I'm not an expert, but staring down the release of my 6th book (holy shit, 6th?!), I have to reflect on a few realities of publication & open a dialogue with the #WritingCommunity
1/
A bit of background: I've been writing since 2006. I self-pub'd my first book in 2009, and continued with self-pub ever since. This was just before self-publication became vogue. And it was a conscious choice - and it was also how I learned what I know. The hard way.

2/
My friend said, "Getting an agent is like winning the lottery". This isn't wrong.
I tried to query, and was shot down every. single. time.
This isn't unusual. In fact, every #writer know that when you're #querying, this is par for the course.

Lehi's Journey in 1 Nephi is an odd fusion of the Exodus and the age of exploration wandering through the Arabian peninsula and then across the Atlantic ocean, navigated with mysterious #scifi objects like the Liahona compass. It has the hallmarks of apocalyptic 19th c. americana
Joseph Smith is believed to have found the Liahona (with the gold plates) that is like a magic 8-ball with changing words that includes a compass that works if you don't grumble. As I read #TheBookOfMormon I find gold nuggets every time I google an oddity mentioned in it.
It's fascinating that Lehi's Journey traverses a similar route as the Prophet Muhammad through the region of Medina and Mecca, and ending in "Bountiful" (a land of milk and honey) possibly in Yemen/Oman.

‘Having A Masculine Front In A Man’s World Has Its Uses’ Dimple Kapadia’s opening line in #ChristopherNolann much-awaited #TENET, is what the actor says describes her and her screen character Priya best.
#DimpleKapadia said, ‘I always thought I was more of a man than a woman even in my real life, so I completely agree with it’. Playing Priya, an arms dealer in the #scifi thriller, the actress recounts how she nearly didn't do the film.
#DimpleKapadia says "I didn't go through the script, I was given a two-page audition and I was so scared. Thinking how am I going to do it? But, better sense prevailed and despite all my fears and anxieties I nearly didn't do the film.
