Parents and society put pressure on students. Parents feel the need to keep up with their neighbors. Social media doesn't help. I see posts/1

Some people see these kinds of things, ignore that every single child is different with different gifts/skills, and then do whatever they have to to ensure that/2
@ThunderB @KathrynMaga @TSchapker @RoscoeBDavis1 @smc12256 @vjeannek @RichardPainter0 @bridgers_kirk @wakeywakey16 @jakee528 @abc7newsbayarea They, too, will one day, will be able to post some fabulous FB posts proclaiming their child's exceptionalism. It's sad and has become the latest iteration of "keeping up with the jones." Now, it's vicariously keeping up through your child's accomplishments. So unfair to kid./3
@ThunderB @KathrynMaga @TSchapker @RoscoeBDavis1 @smc12256 @vjeannek @RichardPainter0 @bridgers_kirk @wakeywakey16 @jakee528 @abc7newsbayarea One final observation. I have been saying this for many years and now believe my theory can be extended to this college fraud case. Here it is: I have been watching parents in my circle for years who do the following: buy their child the newest video game the day it comes out &/4
@ThunderB @KathrynMaga @TSchapker @RoscoeBDavis1 @smc12256 @vjeannek @RichardPainter0 @bridgers_kirk @wakeywakey16 @jakee528 @abc7newsbayarea Get them immediately iPhone version the second it it released (& for kids in 3rd/4th grade), get them the latest whatever, allow them to stay home from school of they didn't finish a project or study enough for a test, make sure they have every play date they want when they/ 5
@ThunderB @KathrynMaga @TSchapker @RoscoeBDavis1 @smc12256 @vjeannek @RichardPainter0 @bridgers_kirk @wakeywakey16 @jakee528 @abc7newsbayarea Want it no matter how inconvenient it is for the parent, etc etc. I've noticed many of these kids have a psychological need for instant gratification. Some of these kids end up doing things as teens that are hard to believe a child who has had every advantage would do like/6
@ThunderB @KathrynMaga @TSchapker @RoscoeBDavis1 @smc12256 @vjeannek @RichardPainter0 @bridgers_kirk @wakeywakey16 @jakee528 @abc7newsbayarea Cheat, or drink, or experiment with drugs, or force affection from girls, or quit sport teams of they aren't in starting lineup, etc. The older they child gets the sooner they engage In risky adult behavior because the thrill of getting that next iPhone isn't enough anymore. /7
@ThunderB @KathrynMaga @TSchapker @RoscoeBDavis1 @smc12256 @vjeannek @RichardPainter0 @bridgers_kirk @wakeywakey16 @jakee528 @abc7newsbayarea And this is why I think many parents and kids feel entitled to get what ever they want when they want it. They also don't feel the need (or understand the concept) of working for these things. My oldest is 17 and still has no phone. He doesn't get what a lot of his peers get. /8
@ThunderB @KathrynMaga @TSchapker @RoscoeBDavis1 @smc12256 @vjeannek @RichardPainter0 @bridgers_kirk @wakeywakey16 @jakee528 @abc7newsbayarea And I hear about it from him all the time. Thats just one example but most people are shocked when they find this out bc literally every kid has a phone these days. Anyway, I'm probably a monster. BUT, I tell him ya gotta earn stuff. You have to work for things NOT EXPECT them./9
@ThunderB @KathrynMaga @TSchapker @RoscoeBDavis1 @smc12256 @vjeannek @RichardPainter0 @bridgers_kirk @wakeywakey16 @jakee528 @abc7newsbayarea I'll wrap up/sorry for hijacking thread. My point is parents should think long & hard before going down road I described. When thrills of immediate gratification & keeping up with little stuff wear off, it ends up being like a drug & one is willing to do anything for next high/E
