Just your annual reminder that the US News rankings are based on a wholly arbitrary and completely indefensible faux-quantification based on an arbitrary weighting system that changes annually just to make the rankings move to sell annual access.

It’s a scam. And a toxic one.
And I tweeted that out before I looked up the results, so I would have said that no matter what happened w Fordham (which went “down” two spots, which… all noise—and would have been all noise if we went up two spots too).

Noise. Just all toxic noise.
Someone once pointed out that if an alum donated $1,000,000 and the school held a party and set the cash on fire on the quad, its ranking would go up, because spending-per-student just rose (bc USNWR doesn’t care what it is spent ON).

Like I said, stupid and toxic. And popular.
But most important, what is the score actually… measuring? Yale is #1 at… what, exactly? What is “goodness” of a law-school? Why is it x% employment and y% reputation and z% spending per student? What is that “outcome”?

USNWR can’t even define what it is purporting to count.
