Glad #AuratMarch happened & did exactly what was needed; started a debate. I have had men listen to me patiently as I explained my experiences of being groped. I have had the same gender make me uncomfortable as I sat next to them in a plane. #NotAllButMost
I have had male seniors tell me that I am more talented than my male colleagues. I have had men come to my office just to ‘look at’ the female ASP. I have had a father who told me I could be anything. I have had the same parent push me to cover my head for the fear of other men.
I have had male friends tell me its alright to hang out with guys. I have had friends tell me to wear ‘something appropriate’ on these hangouts. I have had men tell me equality is the right of every living being irrespective of gender. I have had men tell me it’s not.
Not all but most. #AuratMarch

In a complicated country like Pakistan, when fighting for an important issue such as women’s rights, it’s foolish to focus on specific problems first such as catcalling & house chores rather than the pressing issues such as honour killing, property rights& injustice. #AuratMarch
We have to take one step at a time if we want to accomplish something here while being sensitive to the culture. After creating that shock value by making ‘creative’ posters, women were able to get the needed attention but doing that every single year is not going to work.
In doing so, people only waste time by memeing the #AuratMarach every time. You’re not helping in increasing awareness. These lewd, sexualized and hostile placards plagiarized from international marches aren’t doing anything for the cause.

Thread: Just finished this beautiful book in which the protagonist is a strong, powerful woman with #dwarfism - Trudi - living in Germany before, through, and after WW2.

This is the first piece of adult non-fantasy fiction I've read with a #dwarf main character.

1/
A dwarf person in an average height town, Trudi is, in a way, an outsider, and yet central to the community, too.

As a child, she yearns to be average height - she asks the doctor for pills to make her tall, she hangs by her arms from doorways trying to stretch her body.

2/
Children shy away from Trudi as if touching her might turn them into #dwarf people, too.

Adults act as if she is invisible and they say things they wouldn't say if other children were around. For Trudi, this is the beginning of something key...

LONG THREAD. Get a coffee. As a supporter of Trudeau, I’ve followed the Trudeau controversary moderately closely. As a former social worker who spent 10 years working with survivors of assault, I take sexual improprieties seriously.
There is minimal concern shown for the woman involved. Their main arguments are this: 1~He’s a liberal; 2~He’s a feminist; 3~Feminism is wrongheaded; 4~He removed from caucus several people who had been accused of sexual improprieties. 5~He used the term ‘zero tolerance’.
1~He’s a liberal. All conservatives are genetically predisposed to disagreeing with everything @JustinTrudeau says or does. Enough explanation
