A lot of people have told me that God's Not Dead is one of the "good ones" in the Christian movie genre. I finally took them at their word and tried to watch the film. My Lord. It is embarrassing. Really, really bad. What were these people talking about?
Obviously I agree with the theistic premise but the movie makes such an absolute straw man out of atheism that I couldn't stop cringing. Ironically for a faith based movie, it presents the arguments in bad faith.
And the arguments it presents for God aren't even the strongest available arguments. Yet the atheist professor is flummoxed by them. It's pretty laughable. Seriously I don't understand how Christians could find any value at all in this kind of cringy, disingenuous propaganda.
There are much stronger theistic arguments. There are also stronger atheist arguments, which the movie was too afraid to grapple with. Show me a Christian film that has the courage and wit to confront the other side's strongest arguments and I'll be first in line to buy a ticket.
And the liberal blogger who tells the Duck Dynasty guy that she's offended because he prays to Jesus? I really for a second entertained the possibility that the movie might be a parody of Christian films. It was that remarkably stupid and bad and embarrassing.
