Cambridge Analytica was illegal. It was illegal in part because it was British. The UK Data Protection Act of 1998 not only prohibited its practices but also extended its protections to foreign subjects processed in the UK. This includes some 200 million US voters in 2014-2016.
Going to London to finish what I started. No confidence in the proposed winding-up of Cambridge Analytica. People like you support me in this risky effort because you know that we have proved we have outstanding data rights in the UK. It doesn’t matter that I’m an American.
It’s controversial whether Cambridge Analytica did work on Brexit even though there’s an invoice to UKIP. CA/SCL couldn’t operate in Europe because of strict data laws. But thought they could escape UK data protection law by working abroad. Came close to getting away with it.
