The backstop is a trap that will stop you ever leaving but will take away your influence.
UKIP is still going to wreck the Tories and cry betrayal. The SNP is still going to promise to take Scotland back in Europe.

I'm seeing it from Tory point of view. The only good option for them is to abandon the whole idea.
A partial Brexit of any kind now will break up the country and split their votes into wild factions and make them unelectable.

No, I don't care about the Conservative Party either. They could go out of business tomorrow. But their behaviour is very peculiar because they will end up losing everything.

Leave Europe into Theresa May's confection. And from there, trapped in a kind of Brexiteer limbo for eternity, you've given Scotland the perfect argument for independence. While England sits there crying with nothing to show for all its gob.

All Theresa May's plan does is remain in the European Union but with a much lower status.

The SNP will use that to justify independence, and rejoin Europe with full legal rights. And rights over English law.

And I've been saying that for how many years. Since before the referendum. If you leave the European Union, it will break up the United Kingdom.

This is the part I can't understand about the Tories. I know they care about the union. Even if they pretend not to. They will never be forgiven when the union is gone.

And even when Scotland has broken away, when a much diminished England is weeping its woe, still England will be trapped in its backstop customs union, a dependant principality that once dreamed of being a country.

And I can't understand why even Tories would want that.
I can sort of understand why they dreamed of a freewheeling independence. I don't agree with it, but I understand the temptation.

But I don't understand the temptation of May's idiocy.

Brexit gives no economic benefit, and in the form being offered it gives political impotence at the same time as giving an almighty push towards Scottish independence.

Why? Why would anybody. Why. Would. ANYbody vote for it now?
