these candidates are applying for a job. the candidate who's most demonstrating she's ready to *do* that job, and do it well, is Elizabeth Warren. most observers just treat that as interesting trivia. it fucking boggles my mind
most leftists are sticking w/ Bernie & I get why, but his disinterest in killing the filibuster is, while common in this field, a VERY troubling sign. you're gonna have to get sopping wet paper napkin Chuck Schumer to pull the trigger. Dems need to be making the case for that NOW
the GOP had unified gov't for two years and didn't touch the filibuster... they know a 50-vote threshold's an asset to Dems, not them. if you're saying "keep the filibuster," you either love Senate traditions (bad sign) or you think voters care (bad sign)
Bernie's current message is effectively "I will deliver Medicare For All, a Green New Deal and other important changes, if I am able to get into the room where they're stored. the door's locked. there is a search underway to find the key... I do not support that search"
not singling out Bernie, by the way: Kamala and Beto and Gillibrand and Booker all have the same message! every candidate besides Warren, Buttigieg and Inslee is currently saying "PS, I plan to render myself unable to do any of the stuff I'm discussing." that should bother you!
this is a dull topic to be a dog w/ a bone about, but it matters. all this shit matters. if the filibuster's still around whenever the next Dem takes office, that Dem won't accomplish anything. give me the candidate who takes that problem -- and ALL the problems -- seriously
maybe some candidates are thinking this way but it's a bad plan if so. if your Majority Leader is Mitch McConnell you can lie & change course later. Schumer's a sincere rules dork. if you want him to score you need to lift him up all the way to the basket
