I see today is the day we get self-righteous that a journalist having strong opinions expressed honestly and publicly about policy and then moving to work for a politician is some sort of scandal.
Obama and Biden hired ex-journalists to flack for them. Criticism of Sirota is basically 'keep the game in the green room where the rabble can't hear you.'
Why? Who cares? Politicians take advice from reporters all the time.
This is a common situation. Politicians are constantly getting advice from reporters. Sometimes they hire them. Nothing about this is problematic, but a lot of people dislike David Sirota.
"His staff will include Desson Thomson, a former Washington Post movie critic who became a speechwriter for Hillary Rodham Clinton when she served as secretary of state." thehill.com/opinion/white-…
"Others will include two additions to Secretary of State John Kerry’s staff: Glen Johnson, a political reporter/editor at the Boston Globe, and Douglas Frantz, a reporter and editor who has worked for the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times and, most recently, The Post."
Jay Carney, a White House press secretary for four years following Robert Gibbs, also came by way of Time magazine.... Former CBS and ABC reporter Linda Douglass quit broadcasting to join the Obama 2008 campaign....
The list is endless and it goes back to Teddy White in 1960. You think none of these people ever acted as advisors to candidates? Come on. Grow up.
I don't care that Hillary Clinton took advice from journalists and hired them, or that Obama did it, or that Bernie does it. It's not an ethical problem. People have opinions and are also capable of doing journalism or entertainment or whatever.
