I do not understand people like Jordan Peele.

Why would you make a comment like this knowing it'll be weaponized globally by white nationalist?
This reminds me of the myriad of stupid things Black Lives Matter did during the election, like grabbing Sanders mic, totally indifferent to why you might need a PR firm? Why Trump kept saying "Law & Order" while Baltimore was in flames.
It's almost as if they are helping Trump craft a 2019 message.

WHITE PRIVILEGE - a thread.

1/ The concept of white privilege seems to be a purely western one. As a black woman from Nigeria, who studied in the uk, then moved here, I’ve watched on in fascination as this concept has seemingly become popularised in the last 10 years or so...
2/ ... probably due to the influence from America, via social media. I can’t speak anecdotally to the concept in America, but I can offer a personal perspective from my time in both Africa and the uk.
3/ Firstly, it’s important to define the terms, and I suspect that the whole argument of “white privilege” revolves around semantics. I don’t think anyone disagrees with the idea that racism exists.

America is so systemically racist, that Joe Kennedy is completely oblivious to the horror of what he just said.

To paraphrase:
Yes, marijuana is not bad in itself, but without it being illegal we wouldn't have pretext for the massive rights violations we ask police to do daily.
Mr. Kennedy is fully aware of the racial disparity with which marijuana control laws are applied. He's also aware of the conviction rate differences, sentencing length differences, and overall destruction this enforcement causes to black families across the nation.
The plural of "anecdote" is not "data." I have lots of anecdotes about harrassment by individual police officers, and pretexted to get out of the car. DWB.

It's easy to focus on an individual officer or situation. It takes just a second longer to look systemically.
