ICYMI: Though it always releases audio files, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals rarely allows cameras into proceedings. The court made an exception for @CSPAN in light of massive public interest in the Trump/Twitter lawsuit.

Those who view this stunt by Georgia state legislators as a local journalism story rather than a threat to press freedom on a global scale should consider one salient fact.

CNN is headquartered in Atlanta.
This bill also proposes to create a nine-member "Journalism Ethics Board" (chosen by the state uni system's chancellor) responsible for accreditation and sanctioning. The board would operate secretly without any accountability from the courts.

Nine members: Like the Supreme Court, but secret, unaccountable, appointed by a different panel of unelected deciders installed by one state apparatchik, and responsible for sanctioning and accrediting all journalists working in the state of Georgia.

@JolyonMaugham @GoodLawProject @shahmiruk The reason it matters is because the BBC is so dominant in UK news if it’s not on there, it’s like it hasn’t happened. The BBC’s failure to cover the story, I believe, is why it failed to have the impact it should have had.

Sherrill v. Knight is the case that CNN is using as precedent in its suit against the White House, on the matter of Jim Acosta's press credentials. There's a pretty wild part of that case that I don't think anyone has mentioned. Anyone know about the Rev. TK Forcade?
Forcade ran something called the Underground Press Syndicate. It was a consortium of underground papers, and in 1970, it was based in NYC, near Union Square.
The UPS concerned itself with, among other things, the ways in which police departments used obscenity and narcotics raids as a pretext for harassing subversive newspapers.
