@dragonwaking @itsallariddle @radicaldata @AliciaMHendley It may be important to consider that estrogen is not a lone wolf. It influences cells by interacting with receptors at the cell surface, and it is these receptors that mediate effects.
@dragonwaking @itsallariddle @radicaldata @AliciaMHendley If a cell does not make and present the receptor at its surface, estrogen cannot have any direct effect. I don’t know how extensively estrogen can induce production of its own receptor (positive feedback).
@dragonwaking @itsallariddle @radicaldata @AliciaMHendley I don’t know in which cells and tissues the amount of either estrogen or receptor (or indeed, any other proteins involved in the signalling network) is a limiting factor.
@dragonwaking @itsallariddle @radicaldata @AliciaMHendley Where we see changes (eg fat cells, breast tissue), one can assume it is estrogen that is limiting response. That is unlikely to be the case in all tissues, but I’m no endocrinologist.
