I have done a terrible, terrible thing because I am a terrible person.

In my final year of high school, I had an English teacher whose feedback I found tremendously useful. I enjoyed his class, and I got a lot out of it.

But he hated my writing.
I have always written in the way that I speak, kind of circular and lacking in formality. It was not his cup of tea. He’d get frustrated with my essays because he would like the ideas and dislike the execution.
In a not unkind way, he told me that he didn’t think that any kind of career involving writing was in my future.

I wasn’t hurt by it, I respected his opinion, and I took my C+ in his class.
Anyways, for more than twenty years he was right.
I found out that some time after I graduated, he and one of the music teachers from my high school got married. And while he isn’t on Facebook, she is.
She was very excited to see that I have a book coming out in October.

“You and Peter should come to the book launch party!” I messaged her.

“We wouldn’t miss it for the world,” she replied.
So my poor high school English teacher, who had escaped from my writing for more than two decades, will once again be forced to endure it.

Maybe I’ll do a reading. A long reading.
The dedication reads

“To my mother-in-law,
who does not believe that this is an acceptable way to make a living”
My goal is to elicit happiness and annoyance in approximately equal measure.
I should write “I could not have done this without you” in a copy of the book for him, shouldn’t I
Since people are asking, here’s the @TenSpeedPress page for the book, with all kinds of pre-order links:
