In the latest interview that Linus gave there are many things that are very different compared to how I imagine the world. Because for me a programmer must be also, at least in some tiny part, a humanist, not just an engineer. However...
However when he says to have nothing to say to young programmers / future generations, I really admire him, because this is probably the most sincere and meaningful thing you can ever say when asked such a question. Why?
Because who will replace us needs to find something inside herself/himself. Role models are not really sufficient or even needed, we need a way to understand how to put inside our children that thing that will make them adults that want to *do something*. The rest will follow.

Redis threaded I/O small (sic) thread. So results confirmed, works great in the write side, I'll have to implement it in the read side as well. Using 4 threads it is simple to get 2x the performances of single-threaded Redis (even if yet the reading part is not threaded).
So, what's the idea here? Some people say that Redis should be threaded, a few created forks that are quite more complex. But the reality is that Redis uses a lot of time just in the reading/writing part (to the socket and in the client structure).
So... 1.5 years ago I started this project (first commit 2d546a79 is Oct 24 2017!) with this idea: Instead of making Redis threaded I just "fan out" to N threads once I need to write to (or read from) N clients.

A little known story about how @paulg, writing a comment in the newborn Hacker News, inspired the creation of Redis. At some point he wrote that in certain Lisp programs he wrote there was this pattern of just storing data in memory, logging on disk what it was stored in memory.
When the application would be restarted, reading back the log would recreate the in memory data structures. I thought that it was cool, and that databases themselves could be that way instead of using the programming language data structures without a networked API.
However I quickly forgot about this idea and continued with my stuff. At some point a year or so later I was facing with a very write heavy application, and at that point it made sense to try doing exactly that. Ideas exchange is a key part of building things.

The Redis Cluster Proxy project received some interest and questions. Here is a small thread to inform the community about what is the plan about it, and what such new Redis component will do.
First: the proxy is designed by @artiks and myself, and developed by @artiks itself, so it means there is no need to get my hands free to go forward with this project. The same setup that made the redis-cli cluster stuff possible in the latest months basically.
What is the project *main* goal? To help with the fact that the Cluster support in clients is lacking. We want a software component that can abstract away a Redis Cluster, like if it was a single Redis instance, but with certain limitations imposed in multiple-keys commands.

Tim argues that if Twitter is so important to the US political process, shouldn't it guarantee access under US free speech definitions (which it doesn't)?
Vijaya says she doesn't understand that argument and instead answers a different question: Twitter needs a global standard (75% of users are outside the US).

(THREAD) I just watched @rustyrockets interview @jordanbpeterson, and want to say that—among my many objections to Peterson—I resent his framing retrograde cultural philosophies as post-postmodern. This thread details how Peterson's schtick is destructive. I hope you'll share it.
1/ For those who don't know Peterson, he's a pre-Modernist thinker whose embrace of some mid-20th c. philosophical, lit-critical, and psychological dead-ends—an ideology frozen in the 50s—has made him a hero among the alt-right. He's part of the so-called "Intellectual Dark Web."
2/ Just as I'd have less problem with Bill O'Reilly if he copped to being a retrograde boor whose head as to key matters like gender equality and civil rights is stuck in the suburbs of his childhood—so we'd know to ignore him—Peterson's dangerous because he disguises what he is.
