There is a baby owl crying in a tree in front of my apartment and it is both the saddest and cutest thing I have ever heard and seen. And now a black cat is stealthily approaching under the full moon light — nature, man. You can’t make this stuff up!

Katherin & family face court in El Paso tomorrow. After a soccer game against a woman who turned out to be a narco’s sister, she was beaten, kidnapped, & threatened w/ death. 2 friends were killed. They have been in Juarez for 2 months trying to request asylum at port of entry
After 2 months of waiting on the list they were turned away and told to remain in Mexico under the Trump Administration’s new MPP policy. ~ 1.5 K asylum seekers have been turned back. The program is an unprecedented policy shift and being argued in court.

Katherin and her family have run out of money and been in 3 different shelters in Juarez, all of which are full. They don’t have a lawyer tomorrow because they couldn’t find anyone. It’s not clear to anyone how US lawyers should or can represent asylum seekers in Mexico.

The Trump administration's moves on #Cuba this week, restricting remittances and threatening trade, are likely to intensify a growing stream of Cubans to the #Texas border. They already make up 80% of the migrants in Juarez.

The 870% increase of Cubans to El Paso this year has put neighboring Juarez’s migrant shelters at capacity and tensions are simmering under the administration’s practice of metering at ports of entry. Last week, CBP only let 5 asylum seekers through in one day.
The congestion has underlined the new reality: Cubans no longer enjoy ‘wet foot, dry foot.’ But they’re still better off than their Guatemalan and Honduran cohorts, some of whom are being returned to wait for their US asylum hearings in Mexico.

A BRIEF STORY OF HOW THE MOON DIED
(in case you didn't notice)

As you all know, last night was the Super Wolf Blood Moon. Or the Wolf Super Blood Moon. Or the Blood Super Moon Wolf. Anyway, it was the first full moon of the year and an eclipse was involved.
Here in the Shenandoah Valley, it was an atmospheric night for it. The coldest night of the year by far, with the day's high starting in the morning and then shuddering lower and lower as the eclipse approached.
We don't often have snow for long in the Valley, but we had it last night, so under the full moon, everything was vast and sloping and eerily bright. You could see the silhouette of deer in the foothills yards and yards away.
