Here we have a hostile foreign power intervening in a US election to support its favored candidate. Said candidate's campaign is aware of intervention, has repeated meetings with foreign operatives, and welcomes it 2/
Then, having won, he tries repeatedly to use his powers of office to suppress any investigation into what happened. Never mind the question of whether charges can be brought; this – which is an established story – is the greatest scandal of modern US history 3/
The only reason we haven't had a total explosion in reaction is that in a way the gradual revelations have inoculated us to the reality. And I wonder, a bit, whether the general public – which hasn't been following that closely – will be as relatively blasé as insiders 4/
On the other hand, GOP members of Congress and right-wing media figures have pretty much known all of this for a long time. The fact that they have stood by and enabled this corrupt, unpatriotic administration tells you that the rot runs much deeper than Trump alone 5/
