Trust, people and dogs, why I love SA a thread: today I rescued a 3 legged greyhound. It was on a 6 lane highway. I stopped my car and got out and as I was trying to chase the dog a black gentleman who was walking somewhere joined me in helping chase the dog. The dog ran 2kms. 1/?
Then while I paused to go back and fetch my car, four black gentleman came out of the bushes on the side of the road, and came up to me and asked if the original gentleman (still chasing the dog) had stolen my phone and if I needed help.I told them we were chasing the dog 2/?
They double checked I was alright and left. The 1st guy came back and said the dog was tired and resting under an overpass. I drove to the overpass where another car was stopped. 2 black gentleman were in the car and offered to help. Me and the one approached the dog. 3/?
While we are holding the dog calmly I realise this gentleman is afraid of dogs, and not knowing the dog I wouldnt chance picking it up and carrying it to the car which was about 1km away (we didnt drive up to it in the car cos we didnt want to scare it) so what do we do now...4/?
Well, he offers to fetch my car while i wait with the dog. A complete stranger. He gives me his I'd and bank card and I felt you know what, we should trust people a little bit and give him my car keys (my phone and wallet are in my car). He brings the car back, we put the dog 5/?
In. All my stuff is still there, I return his (Isaac the driver from #BishopBavenSchool) items and we sih eachother happy Easter. The dog is safe and I was helped by 6 different men for no reason other than they saw I needed help. I know people say SA is a scary place but 6/7
It's beautiful and kind too. Dont forget that! We need to not look at eachother with mistrust, because today my trust and faith in people was proved right. @BrentLindeque thought you might want to know this story :) #ProudlySouthAfrican
Last bit of news, the #SighthoundSARescue helped me organize to take the dog to the Bergbron vet which was open and is associated with them. They are also going to recommend to whoever adopts the dog to name him Isaac. Just sad now I didnt get all the gentleman's names...
My mind is still processing... it was extremely reckless of me and I dont truly know why I did it. I was lucky enough that Isaac is a good, kind and honest man. So DON'T try this at home, but DO remember people can be amazing!
