Have we talked about the ADL's report on online hate yet? adl.org/onlineharassme…
Some of the more interesting bits:

37% of Americans report having experienced severe online harassment (physical threats, stalking, sexual harassment, sustained harassment). Twice what was reported in the Pew study.
This surprised me--56% of harassment taking place on FB vs only 19% on Twitter. I tend to think of Twitter as worse, but maybe that's because my FB profile isn't public.
The landscape changes considerably for daily users of different social media sites, however. When you're looking at people who use a site every day, instead of overall, Twitch emerges as the worst platform, harassment-wise.
And I'm not sure there's a clearer indication that this is a free speech issue than this: 38% of victims stopped or changed their online activity. Rampant harassment is silencing people and driving them out of the public square.
Oops, sorry, here's the chart for that.
59% of respondents believe online harassment is making hate crimes more frequent.
And, across the political spectrum, people overwhelmingly believe this is a problem and needs to be addressed, both by the government:
...and by the platforms themselves.
