1/3 The backstop is an integral part of the present Withdrawal Agreement. Leaving it out of the WA Bill does not make it vanish.

Rather than postpone implementation of the ugly truths of the WA, we need the Govt to seek replacement: #MalthouseCompromise

2/3 We voted for the Brady Amendment: the PM has a mandate to renegotiate. Voting for the WAIB is voting to implement the current WA.

If the Govt intends to remove the Backstop, it needs removing from the WA, or the UK will be bound in international law to introduce it later
3/3 Postponing the implementation of the most unpalatable parts of the Withdrawal Agreement in the hope they disappear is the legislative equivalent of fat free chocolate, headache free wine or exercising while sitting down.

This is not a way to ratify a treaty.
