@sarkar_swati @ppani76 One contrary pt that wd be raised by some is that Vidyasagar was a "brahmin" by birth, which gave him "confidence" and sense of "superiority". But that also raises a interesting angles most ignore: extreme poverty was the norm among "Brahmins", only few wr patronized by the rich.
@sarkar_swati @ppani76 (2) That a family tradition of "learning" could be maintained even through extreme poverty - and it was this strong culture of transmission of knowledge through generations that sustained them. (3) he most likely took after his grandpa - who once killed a bear that attacked him
@sarkar_swati @ppani76 his dad worked basically as an accountant, and his grandpa carried an iron rod with him as a weapon during his travels - with which he defended himself from attacks, and didnt hesitate to shed blood: so none of the stereotypes attached to "brahmins" are historically true.
@sarkar_swati @ppani76 What I wanted to drive home was that "brahmins" dont fit the modern stereotypes constructed of them by anti-Hindu forces, they wr usu poor, worked in wide variety of jobs, fought physically when needed: Vidyasagar need not be exceptional - but just one of like many others.
