I want to shout this from the rooftops.

America and England fought the Nazis’ military but not their white supremacist ideology. And now that ideology is threatening our democracies. This brings up so many important points.
Our governments didn’t fight the ideology because they didn’t want to. Because the ideology was ours too.

And how real are our democracies, if the white supremacy was already baked in? Whose citizens’ democracy is at risk, and what citizens never really had it to begin with?

I’m going to keep RTing this because it’s such a basic, essential point. And it connects directly to the article above. We fought WWII to keep *white people* safe from fascism.
And that’s true today to a shameful degree. A lot of white people didn’t start fighting American fascism until we saw it threatening *us*. Till the threat became blatant enough for us to see it.
America won’t be free of fascism if we don’t fight it at the root. If we don’t recognize how entrenched it already is. If you’re Never Trump but indifferent to systemic white male supremacy, you’re just against this particular Trump.
It’s not enough to fight the most toxic expressions of white male supremacy but leave intact the underlying system that produces them.
And that’s what we did in WWII. We fought the Nazis but not the ideology that produced them. So they came back.

Trump and his toadies don’t come out and say it all together. They just talk about “invasion”, say “Real America” is at risk, blame it on Democrats, and constantly bring up a few famously Jewish Democratic donors. And they let the shooters do the xenophobic math.
Welp. Remind me never to give the man credit for anything. Here it is, a few days before the midterms - and after the Tree of Life attack and mail bomber.

I was going to go through Timothy Snyder’s rules for dealing with a tyrant one by one.

But Trump is accusing his political and legal opponents of baby murder and an attempted coup.

I need to skip to Rule 17.
This is the language that precedes political violence and despotism. It should have alarms blaring. And I’m not sure what scares me more, his words or the level of indifference from the media and a lot of the public.
Of course, these dangerous words aren’t a new thing. Trump and his lackeys have been trotting these particular ones out for a while now. We’re getting used to his “enemy of the people” talk. And he’s been talking about invasion and infestation since day 1 of his campaign.

Can Christians be invited to a Jew's home to be an invited guest at their (Jewish) seder? Sure. That's about however long you've been in real relationship with that person, to score an invite. BUT DO NOT HOLD A SEDER IF YOU ARE CHRISTIANS TRYING TO APPROPRIATE JEWISH TRADITION
Again: using a ritual that a) is not your own & b) evolved after Jesus' time while casting Jesus as the ultimate redeemer of it (!) is a) appropriation & b) perpetrates harmful supersessionist theology that has caused & justified Jewish oppression and murder for centuries.

In August 2018 Jim Sheridan a Labour Councillor was reported to the Labour Party for #Antisemitic comments. Sheridan stated that he had lost respect and empathy for the Jewish community.
I am not going to defend his statement. It appears to have been used in frustration at what he perceived to be unwarranted levels of #Antisemitic allegations against the #LabourParty Jim Sheridan has since apologised and been reinstated with a warning.
But what was behind his frustration? Why would someone who stated he had supported the Jewish Community all his adult life, suddenly say he had lost empathy for them? Perhaps we should look at the broader picture?

washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-lin… Great piece about how Trump is helping mainstream white nationalism. One thing I’ll add is Trump does repeatedly insinuate that the “real” racism is against white people, who are under attack.
For instance, Trump refers to immigration from Latin American countries as an “invasion”, framing them as an army coming to kill and steal, instead of people wishing to live peacefully with neighbors. politico.com/story/2018/06/…
The focus on attacking black athletes is part of it, as well. The implication is that black people who have money and power are actively oppressing defenseless whites.
