One of these days I'm going to write a long article on what reporters get wrong at cybersecurity. This is one of them.
Story: Researchers have come up with the Holy Grail.
Reality: Researchers have an idea on how to solve an abstract problem that, if it works, solves 0.01%.

Researchers come up with interesting, newsworthy ideas all the time. But no innovation can solve more than 1% the hacking problem, because there are hundreds of different problems to solve.
It's like a cure for baldness. There are several causes a of baldness. Each cure can only cure one of them. There can't be a single cure for all causes of baldness. Thus, any story about "cures baldness" is false.
Moreover, things like this have tradeoffs. Rogaine does cure one of the causes of baldness, but imperfectly, and has significant downsides.
