I have a few #DenaliDiaries to share before I wrap for the season. In episode 6 I stan an owl nest and discuss the secret to their quiet flight.
Here is mama great horned owl in her nest. Isn’t she beautiful?!
Great horned owls usually use old nests that were built by other birds like red-tailed hawks, ravens, and crows. So not to plug too hard here but, yes, crows actually contribute to the creation of usable habitat for other birds.
Not sure who this nest used to belong too though. Certainly not crows since there aren’t any in the park!
She will have laid 1-4 eggs and will incubate for a little over a month. If all goes according to plan, the adults will then have nestlings to content with for another month and a half. Which means...🤞I get to see some epic tree goblins when I return in June!
