I don't know @NancyAFrench. I know @DavidAFrench well, however, and admire him deeply in the face of our many disagreements. The attacks on this family, which have been going on for years now, should be of concern to everyone. The ability of powerful people to point at you...
...and loose a mob on you is utterly unacceptable in a pluralistic society. It is an attack on the ability of dissent. I don't know what the best way for people to show support and stand by them. But if only by yelling into the Twitter void, let me insist on doing so.
And if you think I'm being overly dramatic about this, it's important to read @NancyAFrench's piece in light of this one from a few years ago.

Note: It is no longer true, though it was true when I wrote this thread, that I have never discussed insurance policies of any kind with @petestrzok--because he and I have since joked about this very conspiracy theory.

Was telling a friend who works in college admissions about how Kid got accepted and actively recruited by Hampshire College, about how grateful we were she didn’t end up going there because the school’s future is now in some question.
(If you don’t know the story, the finances seem to have either gotten very bad very quickly or, more likely, someone finally admitted what had been going on for years. Great summary of this in @NewYorker.)
My friend - who, as I said, lives in that world - said, “There are a lot of colleges in that position right now, just one audit away from collapse.” They even had a meeting in her group about it, but it was at a higher level than she is, so she didn’t have names.

I have a difference of opinion with people I follow and respect on here about how much trouble Trump is really in as he heads into the 2020 election cycle full-swing this summer.

I'm firmly in the Wictor camp of thought on this.

Trump has WAY MORE advantages than he did in 2016
COMPLACENCY is indeed a bad thing, and we certainly don't want to fall into the problem the HRC campaign had in that last election, thinking they had it in the bag right up to that last fatal night.
But people saying Trump is in BIG TROUBLE right now when it comes to getting reelected are just scaring you.

He won in 2016 when he had the entire resources of the US & international media & Left arrayed against him.

I briefly worked as the communications director for the Metis National Council from 1999-2000. In 2000 I quit and moved with my little daughter who was 3 at the time, and my then husband to his parents land and built a house on a mountain.
I told him we needed to get out of the city for our daughters sake so she could be raised closer to the land. I wanted her to know the bush and the land of her Anishinaabe ancestors (since we weren’t going to move to Alberta to my territory).
I also felt like I was spinning my wheels in the city. Work, home, work, home...bills...work. As an artist it was killing my spirit to not be working at what I loved.
