Why do I think @SteveBakerHW would make a damn good Prime Minister? Below, some selected quotes from his recent discussion with @bbcnickrobinson . In my view a hugely talented, deep-thinker. Passionate about politics putting people in the driving seat and making lives better.
“I trust ordinary British people, they work hard, they care for one another and are capable of making their own decisions. We are condescending to them all together too often - ignoring the votes of ordinary people is to trespass their rights as individuals.”
“I believe in the dignity of the individual, their moral equality, their political equality, their equality before the law and their right to govern themselves”
“I am a deeply passionate person I don’t mind admitting that, I think our politics and lives have become way too passionless; to be emotional is taken by some as in some sense weak, but to be strong is to embrace what it is to be human”.
“The bottom line is the state has lived beyond its means & the state has funded itself through currency debasement. We make promises that we can’t keep through tax, we borrow chronically &then we cover that debt by debasing the currency; under New Labour the money supply tripled”
I believe that people are living high on the hog off the system; people around the state & the financial system benefit enormously from process of money creation- the closer to the source of the ‘new money’, the more there is to throw around, it leads to profound injustices.
“It’s about having a heart for people. I want to lift the poor out of poverty. I want a social system which operates justly in the general interest without boom and bust. I want to force even the most selfish into the service of others. I want to bring good news to the poor.”
“[This deal] puts us in a triple lock into the EU. Putting us in position with no vote, no voice and no exit from arrangements which govern our lives. We need a Parliament willing to restrain power and uphold the rights of individuals to govern themselves”
“What we need is to save the Conservative Party; it’s about freedom, responsibility, the rights & dignity of the individual, human virtue & community. We don’t need a departure to the radical right or left but to uphold classical liberal, centrist values & apply them pragmatically”
“Being in rebellion is not where we want to be. We want to come together as one Conservative Party and drive forward together with purpose and hope and optimism and dare I say it joy. Everybody needs a bit of joy in their life and I’d like our politics to add to it”
