I spent yest with my five closest mom friends.

As a single dad, I treasure these relationships. Being accepted and at home among this circle of women is a profound gift.

It also gives me a chance to see a side of the curtain most men don’t:

Moms when men aren’t around.

1/
From that, on Mother’s Day in particular, there are some things that moms should hear.

First, your love is enough. Your heart for your kids is enough.

Above everything else, your love - all of those feelings you could never fully express in words - they are enough.

2/
Your children will grow up as composites of many things. Genes, teachings, events, experiences.

They will be molded by an immeasurable sum of influences but none greater than your love.

Despite all those things you can’t make perfect or make go away, your love is enough.

3/
And all of those things you worry about it and keep track of, the million undone or imperfect things you catalog and let weigh on you, let yourself off the hook.

That little cache of demerits you’ve given yourself, wipe it clean.

You are good enough.

4/
The meals you wish were a little healthier; the class project you didn’t have time to make amazing; the times you were so tired, bedtime reading felt like work; let yourself off the hook.

Inside, it may feel like a struggle to keep from failing your kids.

You’re doing fine.

5/
Being a mother is an upstream swim against a river of pressures and doubts.

You’re doing fine.

Loving your kids is enough. Worrying about them is enough. Caring about them is enough.

Everything else is just weather.

Give yourself the gift of knowing that. You deserve it.
