I tried to hold Jeremy Kyle show to account and I failed. I witnessed it endangering life of vulnerable mentally ill young man. And now a guest is dead. This is sanctioned abuse & bullying that’s been in plain sight for years

We should have zero tolerance for bullying in any form. It’s rife in media industry, both on & off screen. And those who try to take a stand against it are persecuted for doing so. On the morning after #BAFTA hope there some senior execs are reflecting on this
...stand up for other people. If you see others being bullied, call it out. And remember if they can do it to you, they will do it to others....& I say this & yet I’m still struggling with personal experience that I have been unable to confront.
...logging off now as in flight about to take off. But this toxic culture of bullying that Kyle harnessed is what the country has become. Hold. Power. To. Account. Let’s not put up with this shit

In the week the godawful Jeremy Kyle show was axed, here is an amusing, if somewhat fruitless, story about how I could have ended the show 10 years ago when I came close to planting a fake guest on it to test their security checks while working for the News of the World....
It all started on Christmas Day 2009 (I think) when I got the actress I'd roped in to phone up the show with a made-up but realistic story about how she was a hairdresser (or something) being controlled by her boyfriend, who wouldn't let her leave the house without his say so...
I knew what the producers of a show like Jeremy Kyle would go for so the actress I recruited was very attractive. She was bang up for doing something so mischevious and fun - even though her boyfriend was a journo on another newspaper...

(Thread) There’s such a big problem with gender dysphoria treatment in the UK. The NHS clinics are underfunded and oversubscribed and the years long waiting lists leave people suffering from GD without any support in the mean time.
We’re essentially told by the clinics , “we’ve received your referral, you’re on the waiting list, we’ll get back to you in X years 👋” and then we’re left on our own, with no psychological support in dealing with our dysphoria.
At 18, I resorted to private healthcare, because I couldn’t cope with my dysphoria on my own during the wait for the NHS clinic. The private clinic I went to gave me two assessments from two different professionals, and then, at 19, I was given a prescription for HRT.

I did something similar to this 5 years ago, in anticipation of EC & @theroots' Wise Up Ghost LP, on tumblr.

(You can still find all those posts if you look, although a lot of the YouTube links etc are now dead ends. It was 40 Days Of EC then, so for 2018 I'm upping it to 45.)
Mostly I will be going chronologically from the early years right up to the present, but it feels right to start out with Costello's 2002 song, "45."

I was part of the rescue movement in the 1980's. As my sentence for blocking access to a Planned Parenthood clinic, I chose 60 hours of community service in a homeless shelter along with several members of my college.
I went in there believing all the propaganda I had seen on the news: that homelessness was Ronald Reagan's fault, the homeless are just like you and me, we're all just 1 missing paycheck away from homelessness, etc. etc.
So from Nov. to Feb. of 1987-88, for 6 hours over 10 weekends, I was inside a homeless shelter in the city of Minneapolis.

And I quickly lost a lot of my illusions about the homeless.
