You know how there's no connection between undocumented immigrants and higher crime rates?

Well, turns out, that's absolutely true. Still.

Conclusively.

Again.

Some data from the FBI, the Census Bureau & DHS, correlated to make these wondrous dot-filled funtastic graphs, showing once and for all that not only do *immigrants* not cause an increase in crime, neither do undocumented immigrants.

Now, someone needs to tell trumplethinskin.

Some factors WILL affect crime rates: socioeconomic ones like unemployment, housing stability, etc.

NOT immigration status.

Also, crime has gone DOWN everywhere the last 25 years. Fear-mongering about rising crime bc of immigrants is RACIST & DISHONEST.

They're gonna gets weeks of training, says the Director of USCIS, whose agency *should* be performing these CFIs.

And why aren't they? Why don't they just hire more Asylum Officers?

The Dignity for Detained Immigrants Act was originally introduced in 2018, but HR 2415 is back in 2019, via @RepJayapal, @RepAdamSmith & in the Senate, @SenBooker has introduced S 1243.

Let's run down the particulars of the House bill!

@RepJayapal @RepAdamSmith @SenBooker HR 2415 has 8 sections, but 2 are basically "this is the bill's name" and "yep, that was the bill," so we'll look at the other 6.

Sec2 says DHS detention facilities need to adopt standards within a year of the bill's passage, no less strict than the ABA set forth in 2012.

One thing that freaking concerns me about the description of the inside of these temporary tents: guard towers. Guard towers?

They ALSO have 24 hour surveillance equipment, but sure, prison it up, @CBP. 🤬

After the whole saga with @TVOvermind ripping off one of our posts yesterday, I started poking around there and have yet to find a single post that links to any sources. Which is weird because they aggregate a lot of news.
I also have been trying really hard to find the writer of their version of our Hans Moleman piece, who has pumped out five other articles, over 4k words, no links in any of them, since yesterday.
Look, I can’t conclusively prove that this writer isn’t a real person, but I consider myself a pretty good googler and have found no proof that he actually exists yet

First of all, reject the myth that immigration rates are out of control.

As a percentage of US population, immigration rates are at or below their peak in the late 19th, early 20th century when it was European immigrations coming undocumented. /2
Next, reject the myth of "Schrodinger's immigrant," who is simultaneously lazy & also stealing your job.
•Despite being 13% of the population, immigrants comprise 16% of the labor force.
•Immigrants contribute roughly $750 Billion to the US Economy every year.

Emotional manipulation, verses logical issue based reasoning in political persuasion, was pioneered by Bill Bernbach in the 1964 presidential campaign .
He was the driving force behind LBJs advertising.
The infamous daisy ad actually only aired once prior to the 1964 election and was just one of a few other ads that ran more often.
It was the daisy commercial that is still talked about to this day.

There was a temporary rise in spending as a share of GDP during the economic crisis -- but this was partly because GDP was down, partly because safety net programs like unemployment insurance and food stamps went up. And it came down, as expected
