Someone DM'd me asking what I'd recommend they do in the first 30-60-90 days of starting a new job as a PM. Here's my advice. /1
30 days: Focus on building trust -- Ask lots of questions, learn deeply about the team, the business, and the product. Find 2-3 quick wins that make the lives of the team better, such as unblocking a blocker, resolving a lingering decision, or improving an annoying process. /2
60 days: Focus on improving execution -- Does everyone know what they should be doing at all times? Are there unnecessary meetings that waste people's time? Is the team surfacing blockers? How often is there a miscommunication? Is everyone on the same page about timelines? /3
90 days: Develop your POV on strategy and vision -- As you learn about the business and product, figure out for yourself what you believe the next step for the team should be, then work with your team to align on a 6-12 month roadmap. Work backwards from a long-term vision. /4
