I remember when Trump tweeted that *everyone* agrees Dreamers shouldn't be deported.

Now apparently @PressSec says that's "too divisive" to be included in an immigration deal.
This administration never means what it says on immigration.

They say there's consensus on Dreamers, then block any action on Dreamers.

They say they support legal immigration, then propose cutting it dramatically.

Any hint of compromise fades like a mirage as you approach it.
All the while, Trump sits back, manufactures humanitarian crises and blames anyone but his own minions for them.

He suspended DACA, then said Democrats are to blame for no DACA authorization.

He threw kids in cages, let them die, then said he had no choice because of Democrats.
The classic mark of a despot is creating a national disaster and then saying all the terrible things he's doing are just hard choices required by a disaster.

The only border crisis that exists is the one Trump cynically created, so he could give himself the powers to "fix" it.
It is hard to overstate how completely fake this "border crisis" is.

From the 1980s to the 2000s, we averaged 70,000 to 200,000 migrant border crossings a month. Under Trump, it's more like 20,000 to 40,000 a month. The idea we aren't equipped for this is laughable.
Moreover, we don't even need to detain most of these migrants! We could just assign them to a caseworker pending a hearing, and hold check-in meetings and phone calls to make sure they stay in the area. We did this under Obama, and over 98% of migrants kept their court date.
All of this would be cheaper, humaner, and be better for everyone. Trump's people *know* this. Detaining everyone and separating families is what caused the disaster, not the other way around. And they did it on purpose, to confuse everyone into giving them more executive power.
This is why we should presume any immigration plan from the White House is horseshit. This is why they keep bait-and-switching DACA, TPS, and everything else. They don't *want* to fix the problems. They *created* the problems and are using them strategically.
