Come on, putting Candace Owens up against Cornel West is just embarrassing. Can conservatives stop pretending that this person has any legitimate insights. She's a product of nothing more than simple-minded "identity politics" on the infotainment Right
Media conservatives: we hate identity politics
Media conservatives: we love this person making explicitly identity-based appeals to further a political agenda
Candace's entire argument amounts to "Vote Republican." She's not making an intellectual case for anything. She's just the latest iteration of the longstanding tradition by the institutional conservative movement to elevate "fresh faces" who can spout their tired talking points

The tendency to cast any deviation from contemporary left/liberal consensus as “crypto-fascism” or even outright “fascism” is among most stifling and absurd elements of the hysteria-induced moral panic that we’ve been beset with for the past several years
Orwell observed in 1944 that every political faction in England had accused the other of being "fascist" -- from communists to conservatives. "It will be seen that, as used, the word ‘Fascism’ is almost entirely meaningless," he wrote. Some things never change...
Fascism clearly exists to some extent but the over-reliance on hyperbolic, hysterical language has fostered laziness and stultification. A useful exercise is to try to describe phenomena you regard as potentially "fascist" without using the term; it obscures more than it reveals

Chris Hayes welcomed his NBC colleague John Brennan back on the show last night, and Brennan fumed that it was "outrageous" for Trump to declassify material related to the CIA's involvement in the 2016 election. Gee, I can't imagine why the former CIA Director would feel that way
Brennan parrots the Democratic talking point that Trump is endangering national security by releasing this information. That's ALWAYS what "nat sec" officials say when they want to keep damning information repressed. Blanket appeals to "putting lives at risk." It's complete BS
So Trump is simultaneously engaged in a "cover up" and releasing too much information. Makes perfect sense

In security, we like to congratulate ourselves on how our industry requires "outside the box thinking". Meanwhile attackers have been doing the same shit for 20 years because it keeps working.
Despite our self-image as "fast moving", infosec as a whole is extremely derivative and slow to react. We're only fast-moving within well-worn paradigms.

The level of disruption in infosec is positively glacial compared with that in IT overall (and with consumer tech).
This isn't necessarily a critique of infosec, so much as a critique of our self-image. We're reactive by nature.

Hence, most mature orgs are still trying to figure out deployment of security tech that was introduced when Netflix's primary business was mailing DVDs via USPS.

Again, the "free speech" panic is often much ado about nothing. But even when conservatives *do* feel like they have to keep their views hidden, does that mean they're systemically oppressed, or is it simply that their ideas are, um, embarrassing?
The "conservatives don't express themselves on campus" is a similar genre to the "studies show that more education leads to more progressive views." Both are held up by conservatives as proof of left-wing bias in the academy, whereas a, ahem, different interpretation is possible.
Let's consider a hypothetical: say in one of my classes, we read and discuss Thucydides' Melian Dialogue in conjunction with Euripides' Trojan Women, which are meditations on and (I think) indictments of imperialistic violence and the suffering war inflicts on civilians. (con't)

I’m not surprised that an inclusive, race conscious (not colorblind) Black Conservative, like #TimScott could see right through what his “colorblind” Senate colleagues couldn’t! The judge’s writings sound eerily familiar, so familiar to alt right talking points on gender & race.
And if you look at the publication that the Judge wrote for “The Stanford Review”, whose founder is Peter Theil, it gets even weirder. Why? Because it’s been alleged that Peter Theil (a gay billionaire) has always had major problems with diversity — he even wrote a book on it.
Peter Theil wasn’t born in America; he was born In Germany, and then he later lived in South Africa 🇿🇦. In college one of Thiel’s African American doormats said “One day I heard a rumor that Peter defended #apartheid (which was then still the law of the land in #SouthAfrica)

Cops just showed up in my neighborhood, locked up several of the corner boys.
They swooped in with unmarked cars, and surrounded a van where several of the boys were hanging out.

They pulled them all out of the van and sat them all down on the sidewalk, cuffed.

Then they opened up everything in the van and started questioning them.
They found a small bag of weed in the glove compartment, and after questioning them (which turned to them yelling at them), they called a paddy wagon and put two of them in it.
