1. I'm so tired of people who mean well totally failing/refusing to understand that the Tories are DELIBERATELY harming disabled/poor people
2. They haven't experienced, so they don't believe in, the gleeful malevolence and deliberate sadism dressed up as care that we face daily
3. They can't/don't want to imagine that those in charge know the harm they're causing so they keep acting as if it's just lack of awareness
4. There's a near-universal misconception that nobody is left to truly suffer/starve/die, that everyone gets their basic needs met
5. This false belief is part of what fuels the resentment towards disabled/chronically ill/otherwise vulnerable people, on benefits or not
6. We're seen as demanding more than our fair share, and complaining about conditions The General Public imagines they'd love to live in
7. "what have they got to complain about, they've got somewhere to live, enough to eat, all medical needs seen to, extra benefits" haha nope
8. Nobody wants to believe it's as bad as it is; the thought of living under a sadistic government which deliberately harms people is scary
9. So those of us for whom it's not just a scary thought are talked over & ignored because people keep insisting that Surely They Wouldn't
10. If you want to help, know that you're going up against people of no conscience for whom our only value is how much £ we can make them
11. Those of us who cost more? We're worthless to them. They just want us to stop costing money and if that means we suffer and die SO BE IT
12. They lack "better natures" to appeal to. You can't show them our suffering & expect them to change anything. THIS IS WHAT THEY WANT.
13. People who've never been abused - and the DWP *is* inherently abusive & traumatising - don't get that the harm is the point
14. The societal conviction that nearly everyone who expresses pain is lying/exaggerating to gain things they don't need/deserve, added to-
15. -the naive assumption that any harm is minimal & accidental, results in the continued misery & despair of the country's most vulnerable
16. Even people who say they care often find ways to blame us as individuals for systemic issues. Everyone thinks they'd do better than us-
17. -despite having no understanding of how we have to run our daily lives. Everyone wants to find reasons it's our fault. Why is this? Well
18. the alternative involves inconvenience & discomfort for them, even hard work. Easier to ignore what we're saying & carry on as they are.
19. I am a Jew. I know what happens when everyone insists it can't really be that bad, & Surely They Wouldn't. We're already at the point-
20. -where some people see that Yes, They Would, & come up with ways in which it's justified and/or not going to affect *them* so it's okay.
21. This could easily turn into 4 or 5 30-tweet threads on victim-blaming, Innocent Bystanders, the reality of disabled/chronically ill life
22. so I'll just say these: if you know someone ill, poor, & struggling, & you think you could live that life better than them? You're wrong
23. Or if you think it can't really be so bad, Surely There's Someone Who'll Help, They Can't Just Let People Die: lucky you. We know better
24. If you think those who make the decisions to cut off the money & services vulnerable people need to survive, see us as real people? Nope
25. I haven't even covered the destruction of the NHS, which started in poor areas, & what it's costing those of us who rely on it to live
26. You dismiss us when we say we fear for our lives, but we're only the first in line. Our corpses won't be comforted when it's your turn.
27. Ultimately even the most upright, responsible person is disposable to those in power. They eat their own, they'll eat you too.
