Thread: Farewell from Ramadan

I begin with the Name of Allaah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

“Do not fast until you see the new moon, and do not break the fast until you see it, and if it is covered then complete the month.” Bukhari and Muslim

Days are moving fast with many lives accompanying them, just like yesterday, Ramadan 1438AH began and today it is already bidding the Muslim faithful a farewell defined by the usual emotional and spiritual parting terms.

However, the beauty of it all is that the best of the month is saved for the last and just as the Muslim faithful were enthusiastic and jubilant in welcoming the month, they are equally enthusiastic and passionate to make the best out of the last days...:

and if this is achieved, then the hidden treasures of the Month will be unlocked.

It would not be an exaggeration if it was said that almost 99% of the Muslim faithful had a resolution either passively or actively to improve on their spirituality and to cease the opportunity of Ramadan to gain closeness to Allaah.

However, there are always negative factors that inhibit a man’s ambition to attain spiritual heights and these factors might have thwarted certain resolutions made at the inception of the fast period.

But it is still possible to offset the effect of those negative factors by taking full advantage of the last lap of the month. The epitome of piety was/is Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and he, to the entire humanity and specifically to the believers is a role model.

In an authentic narration in Bukhari and Muslim the mother of the believers, Aishah (RA) said that when the last ten days of Ramadaan came, the Prophet (peace be upon him) would stay up at night and would wake his family up, and would abstain from marital relations

....and in the narrations of Ahmad and Muslim that he used to strive hard in worship during the last ten days of Ramadan as he never did at any other time.

The media-scape has been dominated by many reminders on the virtue of the last ten days of Ramadan and this is in line with the fact that they are filled with virtue and excellence.

Scholars said that righteous deeds are better done at the times of virtue and undoubtedly these last laps of Ramadan is the best for the simple reason that ‘the Night of Power” is among them.

Whatever man desires for in this world is achieved when he dedicates his time and resources to worshiping Allaah and seeking His pleasure. Hence, the Muslim faithful must be willing to sacrifice all they have in order to maximize the benefits of this farewell parting terms.

The scariest thing is that nobody is assured of witnessing another Ramadan not even the end of this present one. So a wise man takes advantage of the present without waiting for the future in order to attain spiritual heights.

It is said that the pious predecessors had their lives hinged to Ramadan, six months to Ramadan they stayed alert and prayed fervently to Allaah to bless them with the month and six months after they cry to Allaah to accept their numerous worship done during the month.

The Muslim faithful must be aware that every other thing can wait but the last ten days. So pause on other things to focus on these days lest it passes by and one’s regret becomes irreversible.

Forgive others, be more generous, perfect the bond with Allaah by strengthening the rope of Ikhlas (sincerity). Many write ups and admonishments are full of relevant verses and hadith regard the last ten days, this is aimed at inspiring us in the light of those verses and hadith.

The time of separation is painful and always emotional. May this farewell not be the last. We pray our relationship continue till we secure a place in Jannah. A believer is more of actions and less of speech, hence the shortness of this tribute.

Get into action and leave the talking till later time. May Allaah count us among those saved from Hell and may our seeming acts of righteousness be accepted.
