1/n #AN32CrashMenchuka 1987-89 I stayed in Menchuka. We reached after eight-day self contained walk form Little ahead of Kaying which in turn was ahead of Along. Jorhat and Mohanbari provided air replenishment by AN 32. 32 years. AN32 still. It was inducted around 1984-85.
2/n IAF declares that engine overhaul is carried out by then ‘despite’ no transfer of technology. Air frame and engine apart, has avionics, communication, software etc kept pace with years passing by? THIRTY FIVE years! Is it at par with latest models?
3/n On 25 March 1986, an Indian Air Force An-32 disappeared over the Arabian Sea on a delivery flight from the Soviet Union (via Muscat, Oman.) No trace was ever found of the aircraft or its three crew and four passengers. What happened to a brand new aircraft?
4/n On 15 July 1990, an Indian Air Force An-32 crashed in the Ponmudi Mountain range while en route from Tambaram Air Force Station to Thiruvananthapuram in India. Why?
5/n On 10 June 2009, an IAF, An-32 crashed shortly after it took off from MENCHUKA. All 13 people on board were killed. Soon after the crash, India agreed a $US400 million deal with Ukraine for an An-32 fleet upgrade. This upgrade was to extend the life by 15 years.
6/n If the upgrade was done in 2009, why are reports coming that it had obsolete systems. By hiding, IAF and Govt will commit unpardonable sin. Are we sending a message that the cheapest thing India has today is life of soldiers? Second crash in same area and we are ok?
7/n #AN32CrashMenchuka On 22 July 2016, an Indian Air Force An-32 travelling from Chennai to Port Blair went missing above the Bay of Bengal with 29 people. Eight of them were personnel from Visakhapatnam-based Naval Science and Technological Laboratory's Naval Armament Depot.
