How to get a unified understanding of different chronic diseases.
Atherosclerosis: hyperfunction of arterial repair, platelets, coagulation factors, inflammation.

Cancer: hyperfunction of cellular growth processes.
Osteoporosis: hyperfunction of osteoclasts and bone resorption.

Alzheimer's: neurodegeneration through mTOR signaling.

BPH: growth of prostate tissue.
Diabetes: burn out of beta cells through hyperfunction due to insulin resistance.

Obesity: hyperfunction due to oversupply of energy.

Hypertension: increased beta adrenergic activity, ACE levels: hyperfunction.
Exercise, calorie restriction, fasting, hormesis: all reduce hyperfunction.

Aging and excess food increase hyperfunction.

Myths of exercise.

There are quite a few.

Perhaps the most pernicious is that you're overweight because you don't exercise enough.
Exercise makes you hungry, so you're likely to eat more if you exercise more.

Plus it's trivially easy to eat more calories than you burn, if you eat the modern diet.
Exercise doesn't burn as many calories as people think either.

You've got to run 5 miles to burn 500 calories.

How to maintain good insulin sensitivity: make sure you never have a full tank of glycogen.

Glycogen depletion immediately increases insulin sensitivity.
You do that through exercise and eating fewer carbs.

Resistance training decreases muscle glycogen, and it takes a long time to refill if you don't eat a lot of carbs.

Maybe even indefinitely if you eat none.
The solution to insulin resistance is simple.

It's your responsibility to prevent yourself from being in that position.

No one is coming to save you.
It must be miserable. Old people in that position are all but discarded by society.

I was all set to write another Medium post about Mark Miles' comments about how "long-time fans" aren't a factor in his decision-making on guaranteed spots.

Then I thought, "What's the point?"

A brief (?) thread.
In short, he's right. "Long-time fans" (read: old people) are at best a diminishing ROI for racing marketers. We're closer to death, less malleable, less likely to be swayed by marketing. So what we care about is way down on the totem pole. And in a long-term view, that's apt.
Except...

...sometimes it's the "long-time fans" who are responsible for keeping businesses which are naturally declining and losing relevance from disappearing from the zeitgeist.

Like IndyCar.

159 years ago today, On the Origin of Species by Charles Darwin was published for the first time. It is, to my mind, the most revolutionary, and the most important book ever written.
After an epic journey on the Beagle, years of meticulous thought and experimentation, and prompted by Alfred Wallace coming to roughly the same idea, Darwin compiled his thoughts on the radiation of species in this book.
And the process by which the diversification of life on Earth had occurred over generational and geological time.

Darwin had expressed anxiety that Wallace’s ideas were presented alongside his, but that he also was credited properly. Wallace was unaware of the presentation, but expressed deep gratitude later.

Ok my dear kings... this is a thread of what you should at least know about women before you decide to get into a relationship or marriage. Contrary to popular opinion, females are not as complicated as we have been made to believe.
My eyes bleed whenever I see guys doing certain things all in the name of love or romance. Please you all should stop embarrassing me. Stop falling my hand please. For more than 10,000 years, women have remained the same so they shouldn't be that difficult.
1) First and foremost, guys you need to understand that guys and girls are so different that we do not even speak the same language or think the same way. There is a reason why we love sports and action but they love reality shows,drama and zee world.
