I feel like I need to explain something to some folks.

A lot of people have been questioning why anyone is bothering to celebrate Gay Pride, or why it’s such a big deal, when being gay isn’t some accomplishment to be “proud” of.

(Thread)
The thing is, Gay Pride isn’t supposed to be about “I TAKE PRIDE IN BEING GAY,” because you guys are right, being gay (like being straight) isn’t an accomplishment, nor something to necessarily be “proud” of.

I mean, none of us are really “proud” to be straight, right?
Instead, Gay Pride is more about “I’M NOT ASHAMED TO BE GAY.”

It’s about saying “Here’s this part of me that a lot of people don’t like, but it’s who I am and I’m not hiding it.”
I agree a lot of Pride now is just way overly sexualized, or an opportunity for corporate virtue signaling, which is absolutely worth criticizing.

And I think it’s also fair to question why Pride is a month when other celebrations (like Veterans or Memorial Day) or just a day.
But I’ve seen creators and other people I follow post the most INNOCUOUS Pride tweets or photos (like “Hey guys! Happy Pride!” Or “For any LGBT youth struggling right now, remember it gets better!”) and be attacked for being an “SJW” or “lefty”.
That really upsets me.

There’s so much of the Pride movement I have my own issues with (over-sexualization, child drag queens??), but if you feel the need to attack every single person who posts a rainbow in their profile, you need to calm down.
