Several interesting answers from @BorisJohnson in Sunday Times interview; little on the most important Q: how will he get us out of EU?
He is inclusive and not grudge-bearing; has learned from the collapse of his campaign last time thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/b…
He claims to have no more skeletons in his cupboard
But on how he would get us out of the EU he offers only naked impossiblism: renegotiate & ditch the backstop
The whole point of the backstop is an open border in Ireland has to be guaranteed in the withdrawal agreement
The EU will agree, he says, because of his credible threat to leave without a deal if it doesn't
The EU knows as well as we do that parliament will not allow a no-deal exit, but Johnson thinks MPs will change their minds
And he thinks withholding payment of the exit bill will add to his leverage over the EU
So Johnson thinks that by paying less, the EU will give him a deal more favourable to the UK than May negotiated by offering to pay more
As @ShippersUnbound asked, why would Brussels, where he is not liked, do more for Johnson than May?
This is someone who is 7 weeks away from becoming PM
I had some questions for Boris Johnson the other day independent.co.uk/voices/boris-j…
And some more questions
Maybe another day, then
