Why focus+intensity is the combo you are looking for:
Focus is about saying no - one famous fruit lover once said.
Focus is about constantly repeating yourself & remembering what truly matters in your life/job, knowing where your top top priorities are.
Losing your focus = leaving space to infinite distractions. The most important resource you have in life is time. Choose wisely to which activities you want to allocate it. Being overwhelmed by doubts & considering every single option is the best way to end up doing nothing.
Intensity is not about dedicating enough time to a task. It’s not a numbers game. It’s about doing something with all your heart. It can be just one small interaction. But an intense interaction can have an unlimited amount of outcomes.
Lacking intensity leads to a loss of motivation. When you spend years on something but without the right intensity, it 1/ takes WAY more time proportionally speaking & 2/ the absence of progress & results will ultimately make you stop even if you love doing it.
Focus + intensity is necessary to achieve greatness in the things you love. You need both - they compound. You'll enjoy doing something you love or want to try to do, dedicating your time to it & FEELING it. It provides the best experience & outcomes. Process + results.
This is actually something natural for us human beings:
It gets you in the flow state.
It’s the secret sauce for the best interactions & emotions.
It’s how you enjoy+feel+understand the best your food, your TV show, your time with your loved ones.
People say they can do many things at the same time. But it’s impossible to get to the essence of things by acting this way. By multitasking, you win celerity but lose the opportunity to deeply understand, learn or reevaluate. It comes at a price, don't forget it.
I lived in Japan for 6 months: learning Japanese + how to code, developing a complex website, traveling, trying to make friends. All at the same time. I got none of those right.
I learned in the process but didn’t achieve a thing. And God, I love achieving things.
Every decision is a sacrifice. Don’t think you’re so smart you can do everything WELL at the same time. You should be intransigent. Do things & do them intensely. Wanna learn to code? Code for one month & do only this - It’s the way to know if you like it or are good at it.
I had the idea of this thread 10min ago when I went to pee 😂
I then wrote it in one go without having a break, felt really inspired & enjoyed the process: Focus + intensity.
