1/ The absurdity of debate abt whether or not contemporary child detentions are "concentration camps" gets to the heart of Indigenous genocide erasure. Like the word genocide, concentration camp is a new word. But both concepts are useful for understanding a longer structure.
2/ No doubt, perps of genocide don't call it genocide while they were doing it. They may not have always called them concentration camps either. The key factor is the *intent* to destroy a group in whole or in part. Removing children from a group qualifies as genocide, yes.
3/ The main difference between the Holocaust—and it's terrible horror—and U.S. crimes against Indigenous peoples, Japanese Americans, and migrants (many are Indigenous) is that one ended, the other didn't. The US just re-tools its technologies to target different groups.
4/ Without question, it began w/ Native elimination. The most recent atrocities continue the project for absolute settler sovereignty & domination over stolen land & stolen lives. Whether detention camp, reservation, or concentration camp, they're all tools of genocide.
