[THREAD] What if #DoctorWho was a French TV show instead of an English one? Which actors would have played the Doctor over the years?

Well... Let's get into it!

First Doctor: Jean Marais.

Famous for classic roles on the big screen (Orphée, Beauty and the Beast, Fantômas...), he was a great actor, stuntman and was able to play several different roles in one single movie using makeup.

His Doctor would have been more physical!

Second Doctor: Louis de Funès

Classic French comedy as its finest. He was able to make an entire audience laugh for several minutes without a word (like Chaplin). He and Troughton had the same energy.

Third Doctor: Jean Rochefort

Younger than Jon Pertwee, but I believe they were quite similar. Rochefort was often considered as the most British Frenchman, perfect to play a Dandy.

Fourth Doctor: Pierre Richard

The Tall Blond Man with one Black Shoe. Always played the clumsy guy in the 70s and 80s, but I'm pretty sure he could have played a Doctor similar to Tom Baker's.

Fifth Doctor: Thierry Lhermitte

A young actor discovered in France in the late 70s/early 80s. An intense look and a good mix between gritty and funny. A perfect balance.

Sixth Doctor: Gérard Depardieu

An other popular French actor, especially after he played the role of Obélix in four films. Looking at how the Sixth Doctor was built, cocky, ill-tempered and eager to fight (in his early first season at least), Depardieu would have been perfect.

Seventh Doctor: Fabrice Luchini

I can't think of any other actor from this era able to portray both the funny and manipulative sides of the Sylvester McCoy's Doctor.

Eighth Doctor: Lambert Wilson

He's best known outside of France for his role in Matrix, but Wilson would be my only pick to play an energetic and romantic eighth Doctor

Ninth Doctor: Jean Dujardin

He was already popular in France in 2005, but he was still far from an international recognition (this would come later with "The Artist"). Great actor, great humour, perfect choice.

Tenth Doctor: Romain Duris

I had trouble picking an actor for Ten. Tennant is a very complex mix not easy to find here. Duris, while not completely in the same range as Tennant, would have brought something similar to the Doctor.

Eleventh Doctor: Pio Marmaï

An other very difficult choice. All the actors I had in mind (like Pierre Niney) were just too young for the role. After a good moment of looking at different French actors, Marmaï was the only one that stood out to me.

Twelfth Doctor: Vincent Cassel

This one was rather easy. Even if he more classified as a "French James Bond" sometimes, he would be great in the role. He's also quite good at delivering monologues.

Thirteenth Doctor: Virginie Efira

Another easy choice: funny, full of energy. I really believe that Virginie Efira is the French equivalent of Jodie Whittaker.

War Doctor: Jean Reno

Leon, The Professional,... Godefroy de Montmirail.

Is there a better choice?

Si vous le voulez, j'ai fait par le passé quelques vidéos sur Doctor Who. Rien d'exceptionnel, mais j'essaie de creuser l'envers de la série !
