We're back from Finlayson Point Provincial Park, and our maiden voyage with the new set up was a success! The trailer is a prototype, and there were a couple of small glitches we need to get fixed via warranty. But overall, we're happy. Thread. #WeGetOutside
The trailer has great cargo capacity for our needs. Two adults and a dog can sleep comfortably side-by-side. A third can very easily sleep with their head in the opposite direction. Built in storage cubbies are awesome. Messy bed tour:
Interior and exterior lights are LEDs. Cubbie lights are on a separate switch. There is also a heater. We used our camping air mattresses and sleeping bags. The white interior helps it feel very roomy. Need to make some curtains.
With windows wide open, condensation wasn't a problem. But it will need some ventilation help in colder temps. We're getting a roof vent installed which should do the trick. There was a nice cross breeze on our site, so we never felt hot or closed-in.
Bringing the screen tent gave us a refuge from bugs and a bit of rain. We stored our empty cargo bins in there, too. All the food and cooking stuff was stored in the back of the Jeep when off-site and at night.
So here's what we need to do next: ladder rack on roof to carry canoes. Ventilation fan in ceiling. Curtains on windows. Padding for the floor, because it's hard and scratchy. We'll probably will use those "puzzle" floor tiles you can get anywhere and cut to size.
I'm also thinking of rigging up some kind of screen system for the door, so we can keep it open for more air flow when we aren't sleeping.
And that's the end of the tour! I'll post a lot more as we make the changes and get the trailer out there on more trips. Feel free to ask an questions!
Ok. It's not quite the end. I should mention that the trailer is
5 x 10 and all aluminum, making it super light to tow and hand-push it into our garage for storage. We upgraded by adding electric brakes and front and rear trailer stabilizers.
