I know it makes people feel terribly knowing, to jump into a story occupying twitter, touch the side of their nose and say “dead cat strategy”, thereby suggesting they (clever as they are) didn’t fall for it, but mostly they seem to not know what a “dead cat strategy”is. 1/4
A “dead cat strategy” is usually employed when news is full of something you don’t want there and you break the news cycle with a “dead cat” - effectively getting them talking about something else. Press was very positive about Johnson. Last thing he wanted was a “dead cat”. 2/4
I may be wrong, of course, but it’s not enough to just say “dead cat”; basically suggesting the poster fell for something clever-ole-you didn’t. You have to, at least, make a reasonable hypothesis of what the “dead cat” was trying to displace or distract from. 3/4

Interesting edit by @BBCNews. What made the news: “We will be able to look back at this period as the beginning of a new golden age.” What Johnson actually said: “I believe, if we strain our sinews to the task, there’s every chance, in 2050... we will be able to look back” etc.
And no, I’m not being fussy. Look through my twitter feed; the “in 2050” comment was the most interesting thing that jumped out, as I was watching. This was scripted and vital. Everyone should be talking about it. Please take note @BBCVickiYoung @KirstyWark @bbclaurak.

The spectacle of @nadhimzahawi refusing to condemn Trump’s overt racism on #PoliticsLive because he’s a Johnson/Brexit supporter... So profoundly and utterly depressing.
I had hoped Trump’s words would jolt PoC who act as alt-right proxies. I’m only a swarthy Mediterranean and *I KNOW* I’ll never be pale enough or anglo enough. However many generations go by, I will always be seen as an interloper. But no. There was Nadhim, toeing the line.
it is such a mystery to me. Why would anyone with brown skin legitimise white supremacist projects?

Weird how Obama came into power with a commanding popular mandate and changed virtually nothing, while Trump was swept into power with a 3-million-vote loss and is actively restructuring state structures in ways that may prove irreversible.
Everything Obama achieved is being either reversed by fiat (Iran deal, Paris accords), or gutted. In the last analysis, his only concrete legacy will be an increase in deportations and border brutality, which he ostensibly did for the sake of swing votes that never materialized.
Obama might as well have just taken the last year off. All those executive actions that he did as a last resort depended on getting one of the most hated politicians in America elected, in a context when the country had already been stolen out from under the Democrats.

Why not just go speak to the Grand Jury? Clearly, it's not about avoiding spending more time talking about the investigation and your experience...
