making a rare public comment of my own at the meeting to raise concern over this particular complaint resolution

ms katrina says she did NOT receive the required monthly notifications of requests for extensions in processing the complaint. she received absolutely no communication about her complaint between june 25, 2018 when she filed it & receiving the letter last month.
ms katrina also says the 8 other people who signed onto the original complaint have received no response from the police department indicating the complaint had been closed.
she has requested a meeting with the department about the issue.
members of the community are encouraged to submit letters of support for the CRB’s mission by friday. their contact information is available on their website

the current board’s terms expire next week. the city has not advertised vacancies for these seats. the board says it’s not likely they’ll be able to get on a city council agenda to have their bylaws voted on until august.
they seem ready to vote as a board to finalize their bylaws & the prolapsed ordinance, but board member josh bowers is out tonight. they’ll vote at a special meeting 10am monday, with all board members present.
“we’ve done what you asked us to do, the ball is now in your court & you have to do something,” says board member sarah burke about the message they need to convey to city council about what the next steps are.
sarah asks the city staff liaison at the meeting if he knows whether the police department has hired for the “sensitive data specialist” position yet. he isn’t sure.

“i just hope and pray” the new city manager “listens to us,” ms katrina says.
not much was decided at this meeting - the path forward for the police civilian review board is still pretty unclear in terms of a timeline.
a community member is expressing concern about how the board will be able to present to council & continue to pressure council to pass the bylaws if the board has no members after july 2
council won’t vote on the bylaws until august. i assume they won’t advertise for new board members until the board makeup requirements are successfully written into an ordinance and passed. the vacancies have to be advertised for 30 days. a new board won’t be in place for MONTHS.
well, i think that’s the shortest CRB meeting i’ve ever attended. meeting adjourned. they’ll pick back up at 10am on monday.
