Medicare-for-All is basically a moral position, rather than a technocratic or healthcare one. So it's not particularly important whether it "works" in narrow policy terms, since that's not necessarily the point

This is one reason I don't care for technocratic critiques of Bernie's or Warren's proposals, b/c they mostly miss the point. The point isn't necessarily whether something "works"—and the idea that something needs to "work" to be good itself depends on a set of value propositions

The big new BBC Arabic poll has gotten some misleading coverage. BBC is calling this the rise of the "non-religious" 👇🏾 The problem is the common Arabic translation of "not religious" would be مش متدين or لست متدين which doesn't have quite the same implication as "not religious"
We have no way of knowing how the question was asked in Arabic, since the battery of survey questions has only so far been released in English
Also, to really get clarity, you'd probably need to ask a follow-up question, namely that if they're "not religious," do they either want to be religious or do they think they *should* become religious?

I feel like driving up some controversy, so how about a thread of Hot Takes/Unpopular Opinions! You know the drill, one like = one take/opinion.

Start easy: the blunt awkwardness/cringe of 'Blurryface' is the point of taking the piss out of Tyler. I stand by my light 9/10.
2. I don't hate Nickelback's 'Dark Horse' - it's easily a record for them at their most tasteless, but the frat-bro swagger of it helps some of their better hooks.
3. 'Fireflies' by Owl City is a genuinely terrific song that captures precocious, starry-eyed wonderment better than few others in the 2000s.

It is SPECTACULARLY lame, but that's why it works.
