@six_forty_five Pier21 Kodaira (soon to be Retropia 22) ran a monthly tournament called The Masters. It's a handicap race, so in essence everyone is aiming to have the best delta relative to their PB. 1/
@six_forty_five A few side tournaments have been held at CTWC -- some Versus No Item (seeded by Master time attack), some time attack (no handicap, pools of 4, 2~3 heats with Grand Prix points system), etc.. 2/
@six_forty_five Some tournaments have been held at community meetups. I think the most complex format we've run was a two-phase event akin to some pinball tournaments: qualifiers are unlimited buy-in, play five main modes, times in each earn Grand Prix style points on separate leaderboards. 3/
@six_forty_five Players holding top 4 valued tickets moved onto finals, so you had to put together one "run" that was decently strong in all categories. Finals game picks were done in order of seed, Grand Prix scoring in each. Winners determined after three games (or four for tie-break). 4/
@six_forty_five Modes were TGM1, TGM2 Master, TGM2 Death, TGM3 Master, TGM 3 Shirase. Between qualifiers attempts and finals game picks, was one of the most fun formats we've been about to run. Had to be good at everything, and have a good idea of what to pick on the other finalists. 5/5
@six_forty_five Oh yeah, there have been some online competitions as well. I ran one where I sent a TGM1 PCB too the first newcomer (limited/no TGM-specific experience) to get GM in emulator or fan game, based on something similar that Jago ran before (I think prize was a 360? lol). 6/"5"
@six_forty_five There have been other low-stakes community challenges and bounties as well. In a similar vein, we have a yearly week-long leaderboard / grind event to celebrate the "holiday" of the TGM2 Death Master time limit (starts 3/25 for 3:25.00). 7/5
@six_forty_five Summary, I think The Masters is the most prominent and long-running event with a standard bracket. A lot of Western community is spread out so it has been more about timed remote events or one-offs at community hangouts.
