Some perspective: There are about a million migrants in Libya, usually engaged in manual labor or agriculture. Some are saving to go to Europe, many just support their families back home. The people in the detention centers are those captured trying to leave or being smuggled.
Most migrants exist on funds sent from family/friends or work. Militias charge money and create indentured servants, then sold to work for free if they cannot pay their debts. Smuggling was a well oiled predatory business until the war. Now it's a mess. globalinitiative.net/the-human-conv…
Migrants in Libya do not have to be incarcerated or detained but they are caught between the stifling bureaucracy of Qaddafi's Libya, the tattered shreds of post revolution militias and EU fear. As Qaddafi said, Libya is the cork in Africa. .telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews…
