Brexit: unintended consequences. Contributions welcome.
1) more countries leave the UK than leave the EU
2) England becomes more liberal, as nationalists are seen as fools.
3) Europe responds to threat of UK success with pro-growth policies. Proves to be win-win.
4) Tories become the party of loony ideology. Labour/LibDems/SNP the parties of important economic reform.
5) UK immigration is revived. Population supports policies aimed at encouraging the domestic elite to leave. To improve their educations.
6) After 15 years of falling real house prices, the cultural glorification of home ownership is replaced with an aspiration to life-long learning and an aspiration to contribute to society.
👆🏻obvs has nothing to do with Brexit and is pure wishful thinking.
7) Public recognises there is a good reason why comedians are comedians and dull politicians with trained hand gestures and tidy hair cuts are a lesser evil.
8) Jokes become taboo in political discourse.
9) Instead of ‘milkshaking’ nationalist politicians, members of the public present them with suits that fit well and recommend they calm down.
10) Ken Arrow becomes a household name. ‘Fair elections are impossible, y’know’.
11) Secular ethics is taught in British schools and children draw the logical conclusion.
12) A new religious sect of ‘Kafkaists’ emerges, led by trade negotiators who love their jobs and have forgotten their original purpose.
13) Debate over the merits of an unwritten constitution end. It really is a good idea to write important things down.
14) ‘Have we left the EU?’ Is the toughest question on the new English citizenship test.
15) Tories start putting forward multiple candidates for the same seats because Hayek advocates competition and that’s what they do in Singapore.
(The Adam Smith institute proves its Pareto optimal. Various members of the Rees Mogg family run for the same seat in Somerset)
15) Leaving Studies becomes a popular degree at Oxford. Mainly with Etonians.
16) Classics scholars recognise that the correct pronunciation of Latin words is proximate to modern Italian and not public school English.
