A writing struggle, badly articulated: trying not to wait until I’m “good enough”, and instead writing what I’m called to write now. If I can produce more work - good AND bad - it lessens the pressure on any one thing to be good and gives me, somehow, more time.
And look: I know I’ve got time, logically, but my feelings about the writing process aren’t exactly logical. 😖 If I try to ignore the impulse to wait and instead get things down, then I find I have more material to work with when I am ready.
Plus: the years do pass, and how I think about certain stories and characters evolve. I live in hope that the missing themes or insights might come later. Probably after a lot of failed attempts. (This hasn’t happened often at all and I’m super salty about it.)
I think of the long stretches when I wasn’t writing, for various reasons. Self: you were pretty good then, what would you have written if you’d been able to? If you’d let yourself?

What can you be trying now, so you’ll have an answer when you wonder again, inevitably, later?
